So much admiration for the calm methodical way you work Mr Johnson. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Interesting coincidence that I came across ‘Gilboys’ only yesterday when looking up refinishing of an Ercol coffee table and here, the very next day, I see you using their wax! Best wishes Nesta, UK
❤❤❤💪
A relatively inexpensive CNC might have made that veneer patch quicker and easier. There may be someone local with the expertise to convert to the trace to DXF and laser or CNC the veneer.
Thomas takes what many would toss and makes it glitter like gold. That spot in the middle would chase many away screaming but you just tenderly coaxed it right back into glory❤❤❤❤❤❤job well done sir!🎉🎉
I love this table!!
I enjoyed this question and answer video. Very interesting. Great format for you to share your skills. Thanks.
Excellent work
Great addition to your content!!!
You Da Man Thomas. Your answers to the questions, well, they were all Pretty Good😁. It is such a pleasure to watch you and always enjoy your timely responses to my comments. Take care and be abundantly blessed my friend. John here, photographing the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Stunning.
If it is Cuban mahagony perhaps it is older?
Wow, I've always enjoyed your videos, but I really enjoy the letters and your responses. Keep it up.
Loved this
I live in Sydney Australia. I don’t have antique furniture but I just love watching your videos What a wealth of knowledge you have, it’s fascinating. One thing though please introduce your dog to us
Thank you Maureen! Ella passed away about 18 months ago. I miss her everyday! This is a video about her: ua-cam.com/video/vKkLmBOebWk/v-deo.html
Right side top pull-out table no restored. Left un-noticed ?
Thanks! I'm not sure what you're asking! Sorry
Thanks! I'm not sure what you are asking! sorry
WELL DONE SIR. IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.
Thank you Janet!
Fabulous job! 🙂
Thank you! 😊
Phenomenal work
Thank you Roberto!
This was super helpful; I see you posted it 9 years ago, so I don't even know if you'll get this comment, but I have a table that has some chipped veneer, and someone gave me some mahogany veneer to patch it with, but I've never done it before, and these 7-8 minutes were so informative, from the taping to the clamping of the straight edge to the table, to chiseling out the filler and a bit of wood. Thank you so much for posting this. I've got my fingers crossed!
Thanks Jacqueline! I have a lot of videos showing veneer repairs, it can be tricky but pretty basic. Good luck with all your projects!
Thanks Jacqueline! Good luck with those repairs!
It looks great Tom
Thanks Elmer!
I just held my breath through that patching process, its a magnificent piece of furniture, really impressive.
Thanks! Yes, I was holding my breath too!
Thanks! I was holding my breath too!
I love the leg jig repair tip. That is awesome!
Great! Thanks for watching
Thank you!
This Q and A session was really enjoyable and worthwhile. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am so sorry for your loss. On may 9th 2024 my adored life companion Maximus "Moose" passed away at age 12. He was a huge black cat who saved my life when he was still a kitten. I am terribly sorry for your great loss of your partner, companion and true friend. Even though it has been over a year for you, I know there is a huge void. ❤
Thank you! Yes, you now the pain! I think of Ella every day. I'm sorry about Moose
@@johnsonrestoration 😔❤️
I am mesmerized, glued to every detail of your repair. I started very late in life, learning wood restoration and it has become a passion thanks to masters such as you. Thank you for taking the time to post. P.s I'm a huge fan of hot hide glue and mix and tint shellac. I'll keep coming back. 😊
Thank you! I'm so glad you have found a passion! That makes me very happy
Thanks so much for all of the helpful information.
You are so welcome!
You outdid yourself on this one Tom.
Thank you! I was lucky!
Ive been watching you for several years now. Haven’t done any woodwork yet. But you and your gentle way with your gentle voice and animals have given me so much peace through many family tragedies in the past several years. I thank you so much. Just one thing … I need a tee shirt that says ‘I think that looks pretty good’. God Bless you Thomas Johnson.
Thank you! That is very gratifying to me. I've never gotten into the T-Shirt thing!
Oh, such a GREAT idea, Tom (#askTomJohnson). I have no doubt you will be inundated with questions. Thanks so much for this helpful video. I, for one, frequently have problems clamping odd pieces together. I also don't have a lot of power tools yet (like a band saw, so GOOD). Wonderful, wonderful advice on all subjects. How about that bird's eye maple? You say it's 'quilted' - I've not heard of that & folks have such lovely pieces that they are restoring. This is heart-warming, for sure! Thanks for the video!
Thanks Cat! I'm glad you liked this, we plan on making it a regular feature
There is the master at work, what an amazing sensitive restoration.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Nice one! Cheers, Tom 👍🏾
Thank you! Cheers!
Non sono molto esperta e nemmeno una professionista ma, ascoltando le spiegazioni che dai ai tuoi followers, anch'io imparo qualcosina ☺️Grazie!
Grazie! Anch'io imparo molto facendo i video!
Very generous. Thank you. I've had a stool in my workshop with a broken off leg for over 12 months and now I know how to go about fixing it. Thank you! Great video. Cheers, David
You're welcome David! Good luck!
I never thought I'd see spam on your channel!
Thanks! Then you don't me! I love Spam - always have. Long before Monty Python made fun of it. Spam has a very interesting history and saved a lot of people in WW2. Because of that it is the national dish of the Philippines and Hawaii
My dad would call that a Rube Goldberg but perfect.
Thanks! Yes, good ol Rube Goldberg! I don't know the origins of that! He was a real person!en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Goldberg
I enjoyed hearing the different questions you’ve received and also hearing and seeing the solutions from fairly simple to very complex. I hope you do more of this type of video in the future. Thank you for so generously sharing your wealth of knowledge, experience and trade secrets.
You're welcome Bobbie! We hope to make this a regular feature
I wish that wood shop news article said how long a "considerable amount of time" is, lol. Seems like a full day or maybe two. I'll give the ole bottle of citristrip another try then. But I feel like after a full day it kinda dries up. But maybe it's still active. Idk. It's just so messy
Cover it with plastic to keep it from drying out. I haven't used it. Check out this article: www.woodshopnews.com/columns-blogs/patience-is-key-with-green-paint-strippers
Tom, I have a question about the flexible plywood pads for curves. Is that a product that can be bought or something that has to be made by you ? Thanks Jim k.
You're welcome Jim! I don't know the brand name but we always called it "wacky wood" Plywood suppliers carry it. I just googled it - easy to find. Here's just the first thing that came up: packardforestproducts.com/bending-plywood/
Love it!
Thank you!
Crazy mad. I don't know how u do it.
Thanks Carla! (I don't know either! I just start and see where it goes!)
That birds-eye quilted maple was stunning
Wasn't it? I wish I was restoring that piece
You did a wonderful job my fine sir thanks for saying this piece
You're welcome!
Australia salutes you again for a fabulous restoration. Well done, Tom!
Thank you! Cheers to Australia!
Dear Thomas Johnson Never get the stupid idiots to get to you; Signed; A fellow old spirit Johansson from Sweden
GOOD STUFF, TOM. THANKS MUCH!
You're so welcome!
Thanks Eddy. I am also an avid viewer of Tom’s videos. I have viewed the videos you mention and love the results, even with imperfections.
Glad you like them! And I'll thank Eddy too!
Great video, Tom. What a great way to "take a break" from the very physical restoration work, but continue making videos and helping your fans. I think it came out pretty good!
Thanks Eleda! Yes, and I think this will become a regular feature
Value added! Gorgeous work!
Thank you very much!
When is an antique no longer an antique with new wood?
Good question! That could certainly make a fine discussion!
@@johnsonrestoration I love your work. I’ve learned a lot from just watching you. You explain the how and why you use products.
